my commentary on things
gadgets
Like many of the people in the tech industry I have a very “special” relationship with gadgets and gear. So I thought I might share some of my most treasured treasures so you too can bask in the awesome.
Bose QuietComfort® 15 – Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headphones

Far and away the gadget the deals up the biggest serving of ooohhh yeahhh. These headphones can turn even the busiest work space into your very own cloister of productive solitude, or an long haul flight into an almost enjoyable experience. These sweet ear cans use microphones inside and outside each earcup to seek and destroy the ambient sounds that surround you. While they can’t completely remove louder noises (like that in aircraft cabin) it is significantly reduced so you can enjoy all the music, movies and TV re-runs your in flight entertainment system can dish out. Everyday noise like the hum of the office air con or even a noisy desktop completely disappear leaving you to focus on your work.
The headphones are the most comfortable I have even worn and even though they are battery powered Bose say you should expect to get about 35hrs of life from your single AAA battery (a fact I have proven to be true). Although these silence makers come with a hefty price tag of around AUD$500 if you like to shut out the world around you or like me you need to focus to get stuff done then give them a try in one of the Bose stores. For more information check out the Bose website.
Samsung N140 Netbook
While it ain’t no power house my Samsung N140 netbook is a super power-saver. This little beauty lasts me all day on battery (upto 8 hours) with WiFi on. I take this netbook with me almost everywhere it is great to have it on hand as it can do almost anything other laptops or desktops can (all be it a little slower). I use it mainly for running Outlook or to checkout something on the web, and with it’s built in Bluetooth adapter it’s simple to tether to my iPhone for that go anywhere access to the internets.
It’s powered by an Intel® ATOM™ Processor (1.60GHz) and has 1GB of RAM, the 10.1″ WSVGA LED back lit display is surprisingly nice to work on (in small stints, wouldn’t like to re-write the source code for PowerPoint). It also features a built in webcam and 3 (yes I said three) USB 2.0 ports and what is even more exciting you can access all of them at the same time…. For a netbook under AUD$600 this 1.27kg micro machine is great to have on hand. For a full spec. check out the Samsung website.
